【We Had a Tanabata Wish-Making Class! 】
At Kyoto Language Academy, we held a special Tanabata activity where students wrote their wishes on traditional paper strips called tanzaku!
First, the teacher explained the history and cultural meaning of Tanabata in Japan, and everyone listened with great interest .
Then, each student carefully thought about how to write their wishes in Japanese, and completed their own tanzaku.
There were many heartfelt wishes like:
“May my family stay healthy.”
“I want to become better at Japanese.”
For many, it was their first time experiencing the custom of decorating bamboo branches with their wishes — and they seemed to truly enjoy it.
The students’ serious expressions while thinking of their wishes, and their happy smiles as they looked up at the finished decorated bamboo, made this a very memorable moment.
We sincerely hope all of their precious wishes come true.
