堀川商店街にて「公開ディベート授業」を開催いたしました。
京都ランゲージアカデミーでは、地域社会との繋がりを深め、実践的な学びの場を広げる取り組みの一環として、本校近隣の堀川商店街「堀川会議室」をお借りし、初の「公開ディベート授業」を開催いたしました。
今回は通常の教室を離れ、地域の方々にも自由にご覧いただけるオープンな空間での実施。
開始直後は普段と異なる環境に少し緊張した様子の学生たちでしたが、授業が進むにつれて活発な議論が展開されました。
討論のテーマは「子育てをするなら田舎か都会か」。
学生たちはそれぞれの母国の文化や自身の経験をもとに「都会派」「田舎派」に分かれ、白熱した意見交換を行いました。
単に自身の意見を主張するだけでなく、多様な価値観に耳を傾け、「新しい視点や知見を得る」という学びを深めている姿が大変印象的でした。
考えを整理し、根拠を持って説得力のある日本語で伝える。
学外ならではの適度な緊張感のなかで、学生たちにとって語学力のみならずコミュニケーション能力の面でも大きな成長の機会となりました。
京都ランゲージアカデミーでは、今後もこのような地域に根差した公開授業や実践活動を継続的に企画してまいります。

Open Debate Class Held at Horikawa Shopping Street
As part of our initiatives to deepen ties with the local community and expand opportunities for practical learning, Kyoto Language Academy held its very first “Open Debate Class” at the Horikawa Conference Room, kindly provided by our neighbors at Horikawa Shopping Street.
Stepping outside the traditional classroom, the lesson took place in an open environment where local residents were welcome to observe freely. While the students initially appeared a bit nervous in this unique setting, lively discussions quickly unfolded as the lesson progressed.
The debate centered around the topic: “Is it better to raise children in the countryside or in the city?”
Drawing from their own experiences and cultural backgrounds, students divided into “city” and “countryside” groups for a dynamic exchange of opinions. Rather than simply asserting their own views, students listened attentively to diverse perspectives, deepening their learning by discovering new insights and ideas.
Organizing thoughts logically and communicating them persuasively in Japanese with solid reasoning—under the healthy tension of an off-campus environment, this experience proved to be a valuable growth opportunity for the students, improving not only their language proficiency but also their overall communication skills.
At Kyoto Language Academy, we will continue to organize open classes and practical learning activities rooted in the local community.
