日本の伝統技術「組子細工」の体験授業を実施いたしました。

京都ランゲージアカデミーでは、語学習得にとどまらず、日本の伝統文化への理解と関心を深める教育活動の一環として、夏休みのオリエンテーションに併せて特別文化体験授業を実施いたしました。

今回の体験授業では、釘を使わずに木片を組み上げる日本の伝統技法「組子細工（くみこざいく）」を取り入れ、オリジナルコースター作りに挑戦。

作業に先立ち、日本および学生たちの母国に伝わる伝統工芸についてのクイズ形式による講義を行い、各国における文化の相違を共有したり、日本の伝統産業が直面する実情についても学びを深めました。

その後の制作作業では、繊細なパーツを丁寧に組み合わせていく工程に、学生たちは真剣な表情で集中的に取り組んでおりました。

手元の細かな作業に苦戦する場面もありましたが、言葉の垣根を越えて学生同士が自然と教え合い、助け合いながら、参加者全員が見事な作品を完成させることができました。

完成後は自作のコースターを手に、互いの出来栄えを称え合う笑顔があふれ、非常に充実した体験となりました。

京都ランゲージアカデミーでは今後も、語学の教授のみならず、こうした文化体験を通じて「日本の伝統美や多様な価値観」を肌で感じられる教育機会を積極的に提供し、心のこもった国際理解を育んでまいります。

Cultural Experience Class: Workshop on Traditional Japanese Woodworking “Kumiko Craft”

As part of our educational initiatives to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of traditional Japanese culture beyond language acquisition, Kyoto Language Academy held a special cultural experience class alongside our summer orientation.

In this workshop, students tried their hand at crafting original coasters using Kumiko craft, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique in which wooden pieces are assembled intricate into patterns without using a single nail.

Prior to the hands-on activity, an interactive quiz-style lecture was held about traditional crafts from Japan as well as the students’ home countries. This session provided a meaningful platform to share cultural differences and gain deeper insights into the current challenges faced by traditional industries in Japan.

During the crafting process that followed, students worked with impressive concentration, carefully fitting together delicate wooden pieces. Although some found the meticulous task challenging, students naturally helped and guided one another beyond language barriers, resulting in every participant completing a wonderful piece of work.

Upon completion, the room was filled with proud smiles as students held up their handmade coasters and admired each other’s achievements, making it a truly rewarding experience.
